Sergio Abuja is an award winning film director and a Latin Grammy nominated video producer. His short films have traveled around the world festival circuit, winning prestigious festivals such as The New Filmmakers from Spain Film Contest in Los Angeles & Miami and the Best Fiction short film at the Seville European Film Festival.
Sergio has directed spots for many major brands such as Honda, Toyota, Nokia, Walmart and the Intel Drone campaign, which became a viral sensation and was recognized at The Cannes Lions Festival.
In 2017 Sergio was selected for the Shoot Online New Directors showcase as one of the worldwide up and coming directors to watch. Shortly after, he directed the Australian/Norwegian coproduction, Significant Strangers and was one of the 10 participants selected for the ViacomCBS directors program 2020. For the program, he shadowed director Guy Ferland (Homeland, Yellowstone, 1923, Prison Break, The Walking Dead, House, Dirty Dancing ) on set in Mexico on 2 episodes of the Paramount Network show, Coyote, starring Michael Chiklis (Fantastic Four, The Shield, Miami Vice) and executive produced by Michelle MacLaren (Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The X-Files). He’s currently in the program shadowing Director Eagle Egilsson (The Wire, CSI Miami, MacGyver) on an episode for the CBS show Fire Country, Starring Max Thieriot (Point Break, SEAL Team) and executive produced by Tony Phelan & Joan Rater (Grey’s Anatomy, Law and Order)
His work has been featured in the Design Museum in London, Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, ADWEEK, Vice, Rolling Stone, The Huffington Post, Gizmodo, Guinness World Records, Forbes, El País, TVE, Canal Sur, Cuatro, El Mundo, SHOOT ONLINE, meneame, Skytango, Daily Mail, The Mirror and CNN among many others.
